“Attachments” book tour

Apr 7, 2011 20 Comments CATEGORIES: Uncategorized

It’s been almost two years since Dutton Books bought my manuscript for Attachments — and almost seven years since I first started working on the story. I can hardly believe that book is finally coming out now — in less than a week!

You’re all invited to join me at one these celebratory events. Expect to find me standing in the bookstore/library with my eyes dilated, muttering to myself, “I have a BOOK.”

Congrats Rainbow. Will the book be available for download through BN.com? I have a nook and am in Hawaii. I would like to give your book a try.

Thanks! And yes, here’s the Nook listing …

Sioux City? Rainbow that’s a lot closer to me. I might go to that one.
I wanted to come to the Bookworm and I still might, but it’s a long drive on a Thursday night.

Mary, I love that idea!! I’ll have more time to talk to you there. And Omaha IS a long drive on a Thursday night.

You guys have been so supportive.

Congratulations Rainbow! I just now pre-ordered your book from Barnes & Noble for my Nook. This is the first NOOKbook I have ever pre-ordered and it is crazy easy to do! We live in SW Nebraska and have to drive 50 minutes to get to any place selling books. Enjoy all your book related events :) .

Congratulations Rainbow. I’ve followed your career for years and always smiled to myself at your success. You always were a very smart girl and remembered you as being a great big sister when you live on our street…albeit for a short time. (Ellison) I also always love to see fellow NHS alums doing so well. :) Good for you!

  • Lisa said:

Congratulations on the book! I really liked it and loved that you set it in Omaha.

    Congratulations on the book.
If you go to Dublin when in the UK, you could get a tour from an “Omaha girl” about your age.
Let me know if you want me to send my daughter’s contact information.

  • Rainbow Rowell (author) said:

    Thanks!

Diane, that Nook must be a godsend if you don’t live near a bookstore.

    Christina, V-Up!

Lisa, I’m glad you liked the Omaha setting. I had fun hiding Omaha Easter eggs for local readers …

Carol, thanks! I wish I was going to Dublin, but I’m all about London this time around.

Wow, an endorsement from Jodi Picoult, my favorite author. Rainbow, you rock! I am ordering your book from Amazon today. I read the OWH almost daily, and didn’t hear you wrote a book. Congratulations!!

  • Jan said:

Loved your book, Rainbow! It was auto-delivered to my Kindle Thursday morning, and I read it as I traveled to a conference in PA that day. I finished it the same night, but I’ve probably re-read the last few chapters 6X. Pathetic, I know :-) The pre-release praise for your book was impressive — and is well deserved. Looking forward to your next book. Congratulations! Omaha is very proud of you!

    Rainbow,
I found your book on display at our Gillette, WY library and actually missed a day of work because I couldn’t put it down. When I read your description of the newsroom with its long row of windows, I thought of the OWH (where I worked from 1978 -1985). The descriptions of the breakroom, IT and the employee turnstile took me right back into that building–through the revolving front door. You captured the management philosophy in a way that made me laugh aloud and think ‘this girl’s been in the OWH!’ I turned to the inside back book jacket to see if you had some OWH connection and couldn’t believe my eyes. Thanks for a delightful trip down memory lane.
Loved the Omaha area references; what a delight to recall the Dundee Theatre and the Ranch Bowl from my school days, not to mention those beautiful old apartment buildings on the gold coast.
I’m letting my 8th-grader read your book as an example of how love stories don’t need explicit sexual content to make you feel the characters’ relationship, how profanity can be effective in moderation and in character, and generally how very good writing can draw you in and make you want to be a better friend and person.
This book is a raging success in my opinion. Don’t make us wait 7 more years for your next one.

sigh………….I am done with it…………..loved it. Just loved it. I don’t want to give away anything for those who have not yet read it, but it was my kind of ending :) ….I could keep gushing, but will stop now :) .

Thanks Rainbow for writing “Attachments”. Wish I had bought a hard copy now, instead of on my Nook as I can’t loan it out easily to others. Big drawback of the Nook I guess. Not being able to give books to someone else.

Thank you, Jan and Diane, I’m so glad that you liked it!!

And thanks for telling me specifically which parts you enjoyed. (That’s been one of my favorite things so far, hearing which characters and lines people liked best.)
